BEN SAKOGUCHI
THE DISASTERS OF WAR

Los Desastres de la Guerra (The Disasters of War) is a series of 82 etchings by Spanish painter Francisco Goya.  It was his personal record of the brutal Napoleonic invasion of Spain that began in 1808.

Inspired by Goya's compelling visual statement, Ben Sakoguchi has begun a painting series entitled "The Disasters of War."  Sakoguchi presents examples of warfare from the modern era, and has included some of Goya's captions, along with other phrases in Spanish.

The 33 paintings reproduced here date from 2003 and 2004.  They are acrylic on canvas, 11 inches x 14 inches.
